Nancy Chinchar (owner)
After receiving a promotion at a job with which she was thoroughly disappointed, Nancy Chinchar made two lists — "likes" and "ways to make a living around the likes." The options she liked best involved her love for the dog she had just adopted. So, she enrolled at Nash Academy of Animal Arts and trained under Joey Villani (of Animal Planet's "Groomer Has It") and his team. After gaining experience throughout NYC and Brooklyn, she opened Downtown Doghouse in 2003. Nancy has been featured in the New York Post and the New York Daily News and has appeared on Anderson Live!
Tatiana (stylist) began at Downtown Doghouse as a bather many, many years ago and now she grooms on the competition circuit! Tatiana has studied with the best stylists in New York and Brazil and is known for her amazing scissor work.
Anna (stylist) has won multiple ribbons in the Rising Star Class at Intergroom. She is an expert at Asian-style grooming, having trained and worked in Korea for 7 years.
Oscar (stylist) decided to become a groomer at age 16. After graduating high school in CT, he quickly worked his way up to salon manager. When he moved to NYC, he became a human hair stylist, too. His love and knowledge of hair and dogs makes him the exceptional groomer he is today!
Mie (stylist) has been a Brooklyn-based groomer for about 5 years. She's decided to work a bit closer to home and now you can find her at both Downtown Doghouse locations.
Barbara (bather) began bathing dogs only one year ago. After mentoring with our own Tatiana Freitas, Barbara became one of the most talented and knowledgeable bathers in NYC.
Joyce (manager) is an experienced bather and groomer with an extensive background in canine retail.
Ashley (manager) was working as a caretaker for dogs and cats for over two years before she decided to continue that work by joining us at Downtown Doghouse.
